GENERAL SUMMARY

The Hydraulic Engineering Lead is responsible for supporting Tendering, Order Execution and Aftermarket to ensure hydraulic design intent is met. Primarily focused on North America operations but able to flex to our global footprint as needed. Maintenance of current product portfolio, new hydraulic design, and innovation through our New Product Development (NPD) process are core job functions. Support to product specific Design Centers will be key in maintaining product competitiveness while de-risking hydraulic offerings.

 

 

 

A technical global role that will provide support for all hydraulic and test needs for Original Equipment, Aftermarket, NPD while supporting Design Center product lines

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Hydraulic Engineering Lead, you will report directly to the Engineering Manager and be responsible for executing and maintaining core hydraulic global activities. As part of your duties, you will:

 

  • Competent in hydraulic design on impellers, volutes, diffusers, long / short x-overs and inducers
  • Competent hydraulic design on a range of products from process pumps (OH2) to multi-stage offerings (BB3, BB4, BB5)
  • Perform all necessary hydraulic checks and calculations to ensure the product designed is suitably engineered and will safely perform in the required application with minimal risks
  • Execute the development of all required models, drawings and customer related document submissions
  • Provide improvements to current product portfolio as needed to stay market competitive
  • Work on Corrective Actions, VA/VE Projects or Design Center related activities as appropriate
  • Assist the test department on reviewing test data and creating an action plan on non-compliant pump performances
  • Investigate Root Cause of design related problems and update designs accordingly.
  • Write design guides and technical papers as appropriate
  • Ensure safe working practices and safe product design principles
  • Ensure design compliance with appropriate local and international standards
  • Develop and mentor the global Engineering community in hydraulic development and test curriculum
  • Lead, execute and document failure modes and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on bad actor hydraulic performers and/or non-competitive product offerings
  • Liaise with the Bangalore Engineering Center (BEC) for development of hydraulic component drawings, 3D models and CFD analysis
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and manufacturing developments to aid in hydraulic development
  • Stay current and develop our ability to utilize new technology to improve quality, cost, and lead time
  • Responsible in implementing and closing out failure modes through the RCA process
  • Strong communication in supporting sales and assisting customer technical questions
  • Provide internal and external training
  • Continue to develop robust processes in de-risking hydraulic selections
  • Liaise with the Design Center leads for a given product line(s)
  • Remain up to date on the latest Industry standards
  • Be a leader in developing cost savings and improvements through VA/VE
  • Measure quality, on time deliverables and growth through companywide metrics (KPI’s)

 Additionally, your duties will include:

  • 2D and 3D CAD
  • CFD
  • Working closely with a x-functional team to improve processes, costing, and timelines
  • Interfacing with the Engineering Center (BEC) in India
  • Support business improvements

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to overcome language barriers
  • Strong computer skills including CAD expertise, and MS Office Suite programs
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to solve complex problems and tackle issues head-on
  • Strong individual decision-making abilities
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment, business units along with the demands and expectations to meet cost and lead times
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance or within a team environment
  • Strength and ability to develop a global team while delivering and meeting company KPI metrics
  • Ability to lead and drive change as needed
  • Ability to travel to customer site(s)

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of hydraulic design experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Industry standards (API610, Hydraulic Institute, ASME)
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic components
  • An understanding of the product environment (downstream, upstream, nuclear)
  • Onsite manufacturing facility support is preferred
