GENERAL SUMMARY

Develop and implement long-term strategic manufacturing plan for the site, while leveraging and building upon core competencies of the business.  Drive and facilitate day-to-day business activities to ensure the business will exceed customer expectations and ensure safety, cost, quality, productivity, and lead-time objectives are met.

While focusing on delivering the business metrics and operational excellence, it is essential that a positive working environment is maintained in the matrix organization where strong commercial links are essential for taking the business through a step-change in performance.  A strong, hands-on, attitude to continuous improvement is also essential to dramatically improve the site’s competitive position.

The role requires significant insight into the site strategy development, incorporating global product line strategies for the Company’s valve and filtration equipment as a multi-product site.

Cost savings remain a focus as part of the annual operating plan and will require close cooperation with the LEAN program. The Site Leader will be required to create or refine systems to minimize errors and bolster productivity.  The role also requires experience with SCM (Supply Chain Management) particularly castings, fabrication and machining commodities.

Ultimately, the individual must be comfortable in a low-volume, high-mix complex project (ETO, Engineered to Order) environment and be capable of leading a diverse team and stakeholders through the challenges and opportunities that this environment can create.  The ability to manage and interpret complex data and drive decisions through data are fundamental to the role.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Defining, implementing and revising operational policies and guidelines, as required, to align with the company’s mission statement.
  • Customer requirements are met, leading to achievement of EBITDA and other financial targets
  • Commit to a “safety first”, disciplined culture – developing, supporting and driving the EH&S processes and systems to maintain full compliance with Company policies and legal standards and requirements. Work closely with regional and corporate EH&S leaders.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments are carried out for all areas of the company and action taken to implement the recommendations and safety requirements in a timely manner. Also ensure that all Risk Assessments are reviewed annually.  Lead by example on all matters related to EH&S.
  • Investigate customer satisfaction issues and apply solutions as required
  • Work closely with business/functional leaders to develop and execute on strategic business plans, annual operating plan (AOP) and growth strategies.
  • Develop strong interdepartmental relationships, across the matrix organisation to ensure the success of the Houston site.
  • Drive and promote the GMO (Global Manufacturing Operations) KPI’s, devising plans and initiatives to meet/exceed the required GMO target levels regarding:
  • On time delivery (Aftermarket and Original Equipment)
  • Cost savings (Lean)
  • Other cost of sale (OCS) improvement
  • Working capital, including inventory turns
  • Headcount (strategic workforce plan)
  • Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
  • Capacity management
  • Ensure all relevant Company information is communicated and cascaded to the relevant departments and stakeholders.
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Work within the matrix environment, proactively communicating at all levels and with all functions ensuring there are no gaps in the communications 
  • Ensure that a strategic work force plan is developed and implemented, ensuring the organisation can deliver results to the required standards, maintaining a diverse work force that demonstrably supports Company standards and ethics
  • Ensure the site QMS system is managed and maintained:
  • Auditing and compliance with the various national and international standards that Newbury is expected to work and comply with
  • Monthly/quarterly QMS system reviews
  • Implement QMS corrective actions as identified in the audits and management reviews
  • From time-to-time execute other duties/activities that are within the scope of the individual’s documented or demonstrated skillset as directed by your manager or a company officer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations/Manufacturing; or related field.  MBA in a science/engineering related field preferred. 
  • Proven record of progression in management roles and experience,
  • Proven experience as a Senior Operations Manager, including commercial and operational management experience in a bespoke product industry.
  • Required to have worked in a manufacturing organization that was predominantly ETO product and be familiar with medium/large scale capital equipment projects

  • Solid working knowledge of production planning/MPS and SIOP’s
  • Strong computer and ERP literacy/experience (Microsoft products and SAP or equivalency system)
  • Strong analytical skills: able to identify and provide solutions to complex operational and financial issues. Problem solving and creative thinking.
  • Business acumen: Ability to drive solutions to complex operational and financial issues.
  • Budget management skills: Extensive knowledge and proven application of margin drivers, growth plans development and resource allocation.
  • People management skills: including performance management, motivation and talent development.
  • Familiar with industry standard equipment
  • ISO 9001 QA system experience
  • An excellent team player and be comfortable with “situational leadership” necessities
  • Customer service orientation: Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced, matrixed environment, satisfying multiple customers.
  • Planning and organizational skills: Proven track record of meeting commitments with the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulation.
