GENERAL SUMMARY

The main responsibility of the role is to procure precision machined components and assemblies in support of manufacturing and customer projects, ensuring compliance with technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements. With experience across multiple direct procurement categories within an engineering or manufacturing environment, the role will apply category knowledge, supplier market understanding, and sourcing strategies to deliver value.

The role works closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure purchased goods meet technical specifications, delivery commitments, quality standards, and cost objectives. The Technical Buyer manages supplier relationships, supports supply chain continuity, and drives continuous improvement through effective commercial and operational procurement practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Procure technical materials, components, and services in accordance with quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate sourcing and purchasing.
• Evaluate supplier quotations for technical compliance, lead time, commercial competitiveness, and overall risk.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and contractual terms to achieve best value and continuity of supply.
• Manage purchase orders from placement through to delivery, including expediting critical requirements.
• Update ERP (SAP) with latest progress and delivery updates.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and project teams to resolve technical and supply chain issues.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements in quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
• Support supplier qualification, non-conformance resolution, cost reduction initiatives, and procurement compliance activities.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Experience of producing or purchasing precision machined components within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of machining processes and manufacturing methods.
• Experience negotiating supplier pricing and delivery commitments.
• Understanding of material specifications and certification requirements.
• Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent communication and supplier relationship management skills.

Desirable

• HNC/HND or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
• Experience within pumps for Defence, Oil & Gas, and Nuclear sectors.
• Experience and proficiency using SAP ERP systems.
