To provide Mechanical Engineering expertise as the package equipment engineer to the Original Equipment (OE) Business with a focus on supporting Customers, Sales, Tendering, Procurement, Operations and Field Service activities globally.
Responsible for all design aspects of all types of pumping equipment, and providing Technical support on tender enquiries.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer possesses in-depth skills in Mechanical Engineering Design and has ability and drive to apply these skills without supervision, taking the technical lead on engineering related project activities.
Other than the pumps, the package equipment will be procured mainly from other vendors, and the role of the senior engineer will be to specify and manage the technical requirements and deliverables of the purchased equipment as well as supporting the pump design team. This will require awareness of industry and client standards for ancillary equipment including pumps, gearboxes, lube systems, seal systems, valves etc and supporting the specification of other disciplines where required (motors etc). Typical standards that the role will cover include API610 (pumps), API 613 (gearboxes), API 614 (lube systems), API 682 (Seal systems) and API 671 (couplings). Although not essential, awareness of electrical and C&I standards would be a benefit. It would be also beneficial if candidates have previous experience with end user specifications form the oil and gas industry (e.g, Shell, ADNOC, ARAMCO, Total, etc).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support related to specialist discipline through the full product life-cycle from pre-award to on-site.
- Attend project handover from Sales and Tendering Team.
- Review Client specifications and order documents.
- Work with pump design team to create engineering plan for engineering activities throughout project.
- Execute planned activities including calculations, design reviews, product specifications, drawing creation (preferable only) / drawing checking and documentation creation/review.
- Work with planners for creation and maintenance of the project plan.
- Create Work Orders for drawing creation for BOM release.
- Create equipment specifications for RFQ and BOM release of sub vendor equipment
- Oversee creation of Engineering Change Notices (ECN). Ensure that product updates are made in a timely manner in order to support production.
- Support Non –Conformance (NC) investigations, assessing risk and providing timely and practical solutions.
- Support procurement on quotes and orders.
- Work with suppliers and clients on documentation for approval of equipment to manufacture.
- Work with designers and create specifications/drawings for internal equipment release to manufacture in house.
- Create, review and manage project technical documentation for clients and suppliers.
- Attend meetings and support project team to meet client expectations and requirements.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, and test departments on the progress of the equipment throughout the project.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Combination of technical skills and behavioral attributes required of a Senior Mechanical Engineer (professional, ethical, practical, problem solving, customer focused, approachable and assertive whilst willingness to listen to others).
- IT skills required for discipline specific software.
- Functional or technical skills (CAD, Mechanical Design, Hydraulic Design, C&I, N&V, Electrical) required by engineering to support and deliver project engineering activities.
- Team working ability and an attitude of collaboration, mentoring and flexibility.
- Organized to ensure team management in support of deliverables.
- Desire and ability to develop skills beyond current expertise.
- Ability to influence technical direction.
- Willingness and confidence to communicate (written and presentation) with a professional and knowledgeable approach and manner to all levels, including Senior Management, Shop-floor as well as customer and supplier representatives.
- Must be able to understand and interpret technical specifications and criteria and assess activities required to meet customer and business expectations relative to the Order Execution & Packaging.
- Must have a clear and practical knowledge of both internal and industry related standards and procedures and know when to apply these and relevant engineering principles to solve technical challenges.
- Must place a high value on Quality and On Time Delivery (OTD) of team outputs.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 Years post graduate engineering experience.
- Significant experience of working with engineers with wide ranging skills and disciplines.
- Sound background in an industry related environment.
- Extensive previous exposure to, and clear understanding of, the full engineering process from front end support, through design manufacture, build and test to product delivery.
- Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to set and hit personal, team and project deadlines.
- An interest in self-development, Pump & related Package Technology and Engineering.
- An active and valuable team participant who puts the team success before individual success.
