GENERAL SUMMARY

As a Painter, the main purpose of your role under general supervision involves performing painting duties on new and repaired products using 2 Pac epoxy paint systems and general machine paint standards. Additionally, you will be required to perform inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products; and operate various tools and equipment

 

 

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Within the role of Painter, you will be accountable for the following activities:

  • Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, Cast Irons, Mild Steels, Stainless Steels, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coatings to Celeros Standard requirements and/or customer specifications.
  • Repair topcoats, prepare surfaces, and field paint equipment.
  • Paint required galvanized surfaces per specification.
  • Remove shop applied protective coatings from equipment by sandblasting; perform field blast cleaning as specified; remove dust by brushing, vacuuming or air blasting; remove heavy deposits of grease or oil from surfaces.
  • Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches or other small imperfections in the finish.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures and legislation and with all safety precautions recommended by paint manufacturer.
  • Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit requests and supportive documentation for obtaining necessary approval to use substitute materials.
  • Determine and apply appropriate coating systems for painting ferrous metals which may/may not be subject to submergence in water, sewage, or corrosive environments.
  • Maintain safety standards in the performance of duties.
  • Determine appropriate colours and coatings for various surfaces according to standard guidelines; obtain necessary approvals; and operate inspection equipment.
  • Moving parts in a safe and timely manner and other general labouring duties as directed.
  • Be trained or have knowledge of slings and shackles and safe lifting equipment / standards.
  • Cleaning, painting and rust protecting all components.
  • Train others and be available for training.
  • Drive company vehicles and carry out any reasonable task as requested.
  • Perform other duties as and when required.
  • To work in accordance with the Departmental Interface Procedures in an efficient manner appropriate to the above statement.
  • Responsible for your own quality of work, self-inspection and completion of paperwork and applicable checklists are required.
  • Be willing for further training if required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities when required to assist the company in its efforts to drive down costs and increase productivity through means such as reducing test setups for example.
  • Work with managers to implement the company's policies and goals.

 

In order to succeed in this role you:

  • Should have relevant Trade qualifications and / OR Time Served Industrial Painter
  • Should have considerable experience as an industrial painter with a, proven track record for producing high quality work, working independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Will need to have knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety Legislation relating to industrial painting and the use of hazardous chemicals.
  • Should have in-depth knowledge and understanding of different methods and techniques related to painting in specialised areas and work environments.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to utilise different methods and techniques related to the safe use, storage and disposal of paint and cleaning products and chemicals, and implement safe clean-up techniques and practices.
  • Be able to undertake heavy, manual labour activities.
  • Should have previous experience within a heavy industrial, manufacturing organisation.  
  • Should be self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision as well as a proven track record of delivering high quality solutions
  • Should be an individual who is committed to delivering the highest quality of work and who can assist the team in their continued growth within the region
  • Should have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation
