The Paint Subject Matter Expert will provide subject matter expertise across various inhouse and client contract specifications and will be called upon to provide coatings expertise for all inhouse issues. The role will be part of the Inhouse Paint Team.
- Actively contributes to all team activities aimed at improving plant performance through implementation of continuous improvement.
- Suggest improvements to plant, process, and operating procedures.
- Manage the Painting Personnel – assigning daily work scope to painting personnel in collaboration with the inhouse supervisor.
- Works collaboratively with onsite Painting Personnel, Supervisor and Quality Leads for resolution of inhouse issues.
- Prepare and complete the daily paint quality reports.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To carry out preparation work, including sanding, masking, and abrasive blasting.
- To maintain work and paint storage areas.
- To maintain all painting, abrasive blasting equipment and including inspection equipment.
- To abrasive blast clients’ products to comply with the inhouse and clients specification.
- To record and monitor environmental conditions before and during the painting/coating process.
- To spray/coat the company's products to high levels of quality and compliance to procedures and specifications.
- To check and continuously monitor wet and dry film thickness.
- To carry out any required testing such as salt tests, PH, pin hole testing, coating adhesion testing etc.
- To ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety, and Environmental issues and legislation.
- To carry out such additional duties as may become necessary from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the production of the company's products.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Detailed knowledge, experience and understanding of coating systems.
- Good knowledge of relevant British, European, and international standards codes/guidelines
- Strong communication skills
- Technical problem solving in the field of coatings.
- Experience in coating applications for the Water industry, MOD, Nuclear, Oil and Gas. Petro-chemical plants etc.
- Experience in coating defect rectification.
- Knowledge of coating applications, coating systems and coating equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Coating Inspector shall be a level 3 qualified
AMPP / NACE / NORSKI / ICOR / BGAS / CSWIP Inspector
