The Materials Planner will be responsible for planning and managing materials for a specific part families. This role is crucial for ensuring that materials are available when needed to support production schedules and ensuring production order completion is aligned to the schedule while maintaining optimal inventory levels by liaising with engineering, procurement, manufacturing engineering and production schedulers.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (But Not Limited to)
- Develop and maintain material requirements plans (MRP) for assigned production cells, ensuring alignment with project schedules and customer demands.
- Analyse production schedules and forecasts to determine material needs and procurement timelines
- Monitor inventory levels, identifying potential shortages or excesses, and recommend actions to optimise stock levels.
- Coordinate with procurement and production teams to ensure timely delivery of materials, minimising disruptions to operations
- Utilise ERP systems to track material usage, forecast needs, and report on inventory performance metrics
- Analyse historical data to improve forecasting accuracy and adjust planning parameters as needed
- Collaborate with production, project management, engineering, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment on material requirements and production schedules
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings to address material-related issues and contribute to problem-solving efforts
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the materials planning function and implement best practices to improve efficiency
- Lead initiatives aimed at reducing lead times, improving inventory turnover, and optimising material flow
- Maintain accurate records of material transactions and generate reports for management on inventory status, planning metrics, and any issues encountered
- Prepare and present recommendations for inventory and materials management improvement
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in materials planning, inventory management, or supply chain roles, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in complex project-based manufacturing is highly desirable
- Proven track record of successful production planning and scheduling
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.) and advanced Excel skills
- Strong understanding of materials management principles, inventory control, and production scheduling
- ASCM (formally APICS) certification (CPIM or CSCP) or equivalent is desirable
