This key Manufacturing Engineer role will support CNC machining operations across our Glasgow facility. Working closely with Production Engineers, the Industrial Engineer and the machine shop, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for reviewing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes. This includes assisting with tooling and work-holding requirements, supporting CNC programming activities, providing technical support, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong CNC machining or programming background looking to develop their career within Manufacturing Engineering. Whether already working as a Manufacturing Engineer or are an experienced CNC Programmer looking to take the next step, we would like to hear from you. Experience of Mazatrol is highly desirable, whilst experience of Siemens and Heidenhain controls would also be beneficial. Experience of offline programming using Siemens NX CAM would be advantageous but is not essential. For candidates with the right skills and desire to learn, training and development can be provided to support their progression within the role.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Support CNC machining operations across a range of Mazak, Siemens and Heidenhain controlled machine tools.
- Review manufacturing workload and provide day-to-day technical support to production.
- Create, edit and optimise CNC programs where required.
- Review machining methods to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
- Work alongside the Industrial Engineer to identify and implement suitable tooling, work holding and manufacturing solutions.
- Support Production Engineers by reviewing manufacturing methods and standard machining times to help improve planning accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain manufacturing documentation including setup information, tooling requirements and machining methods.
- Provide technical support to CNC operators and machinists, assisting with manufacturing issues as they arise.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Support the introduction of new products and manufacturing processes into production.
- Assist with non-conformance investigations and process improvements where required.
- Support continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing manufacturing costs, improving quality and increasing productivity.
- Always Work safely whilst following company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
- Be willing to undertake further training and development where required.Work with managers and cell leaders to implement the company's policies and goals.
- Ensure that health, safety and environmental guidelines are followed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, including milling and/or turning.
- Experience programming or supporting CNC machine tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive approach to supporting production and driving improvements.
Desirable
- Experience of Mazatrol programming.
- Experience of Siemens and/or Heidenhain controls.
- Previous Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Experience of offline CAM programming (Siemens NX preferred).
- Experience of SAP or other MRP systems.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques.
