GENERAL SUMMARY
Focusing on the Celeros Flow Technology (CFT) product portfolio, across our global sites, the purpose of the
role is to provide technical direction and contributions to a broad range of metallurgical activities including
material selection, effects of environment on material performance, failure analysis and manufacturing
processes. To define and supervise projects to completion, produce technical reports/presentations, interact
with product specialists, sales, manufacturing, and the supply chain.
Supports the Procurement Organisation and Global Engineering for delivering all aspects of Supplier Quality
Assurance. Ensures that the supply chain companies continually develop their process in line with the design
intent of the customer and verify their systems to ensure they are compliant with the end customer’s needs.
Work in a team environment with suppliers to develop and implement best practices that emphasise defect
prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all
customer requirements. Collect root cause analysis and provide corrective feedback to prevent line stops
due to supply issues. Manage the customer specific requirements and offer technical support to suppliers.
Working in a collaborative manner with internal and external customers, to satisfy the needs of the business,
is essential.
This position will be based at our Bangalore office reporting to the Principal Metallurgist/Senior Supplier
Quality Specialist
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Global Specialist – Materials for both OE (New Business) and AM (Aftermarket) for the Pumps, GD
Engineering (Quick Opening Closures) and Valve Business.
To support all CFT business streams and future developments.
Take lead role in all failure analysis involving materials and to work closely with Product Specialists.
Production of material failure reports and liaison with both suppliers and customers.
Material selection based on pumped product selection support as required, Tender support.
Application of NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and/or customer specific requirements to the selection of
materials.
Evaluate and promote the use of new materials and processes to enhance the company's
competitive position.
Training of Engineers and other personnel on material selection and other aspects of metallurgy.
Review of manufacturing processes relating to metal conditioning such as detailing and polishing.
Familiar with the environmental aspects and impacts of the activities and processes involved in the
role and the procedures, practices, and measures to manage the impact with respect to materials.
Familiar with the risks and hazards within the activities and processes of the role and procedures,
practices, and measures in place to mitigate the risks.
Participate in and actively support company initiatives.
All other duties as relevant to the post.
SQE/Materials
Provide code and specification interpretation expertise.
Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters
and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process
requirements.
Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of
supplier quality issues.
Drive relentless RFT supply of materials.
Review of MRB inputs & Supplier NCRs with respect to material related issues.
Chasing down & actioning certification NCRs to closure.
Data analysis of supplier non-conformance.
Conducting RCA and liaising with vendors to implement corrective actions.
RC resolution at suppliers linked to MRB findings where external non-confirmation identified.
Validation of supplier corrective actions.
Involvement in pre-purchase order placement review of key critical components
Attending weekly supplier calls as necessary.
Support and lead process improvement activities at the supplier.
Vendor visits and audits as required.
Liaise with in-country supplier support to drive RFT of materials supply.
Support the Supply Chain buyers with supplier component ‘Health Check-ups’ of current on-order
key component material – confirm supplier understanding of our requirements, supply progress,
quality issues, etc.
Pre-delivery component validation through supplier audits / inspections / confirmations at specific
check points on key components prior to delivery into plant.
Supplier development and alignment of plant’s supply chain requirements with key identified
suppliers.
Act as a supplier liaison to improve supplier and plant working methods around quality process
improvements.
Coaching and mentoring of existing SQE resource to enhance their skills and supplier quality
approach with a focus on materials and material processing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Welding
Familiar with national and international codes and specifications relating to welding including working
knowledge and suitably qualified for ASME /BSEN procedures, Chinese “N” stamp, JASME for Japanese
markets, material specs and welding processes.
Able to assimilate and process data from a range of sources.
Significant demonstrable working knowledge of the main welding processes typically used within
pump manufacture (castings, baseplates, pressure boundary fabrications).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues and data
into simple, understandable, actionable items. Able to tailor messages for senior leadership and all
levels of employees appropriately.
Successful change management experience, including acquisitions and re-organizations.
Skills in Office, including Excel and ERP applications.
SQE/Materials
Knowledge of Celeros QM/QA/QC regulations and procedures (will be provided).
Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process
(PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
Knowledge and use of NORSOK and ISO 17782 material standards used in the Pump and Valve
Industries.
Knowledge of ISO45001/OHSAS18001.
Understanding of ISO14001.
Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings.
Understanding manufacturing, casting, and forging processes.
Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
An understanding of centrifugal pumps, valves, closures, and materials used within the Oil & Gas,
HPI, Water and Power segments (Preferred).
Foundry, Forge Master and Heat Treatment process knowledge.
General
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues and data
into simple, understandable, actionable items. Able to tailor messages for senior leadership and all
levels of employees appropriately.
Successful change management experience.
Skills in Office, including Excel and ERP applications.
Understanding of Health and Safety practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
University Degree in Metallurgy as a minimum. Bachelor of Engineering/ M.E/M.Tech in Metallurgy in
regular course from recognized institute and university in India is mandatory
At least 10 years’ experience in mechanical, metallurgical or weld engineering is required, preferably
in Oil & Gas, Power or Nuclear industries.
Be able to travel internationally and within India, sometimes at short notice, to carry out the needs of
the role.
Basic inspection techniques / knowledge.
Casting/Foundry knowledge for Casting SME (casting process, method validation, heat treatment,
NDT, welding experience, etc.).
Knowledge of process controls / dimensional controls.
Can interpret Quality Plan Documentation, Specification Requirements, Drawings, etc.
Substantial experience in an Engineered to Order Environment.
Experience of working in Quality Assurance.
Extensive experience of Supplier Quality Development.
Experience of dealing with suppliers and audit processes.
